France's Macron discusses Syria's future with new leader Al-Sharaa
On February 5, French President Emmanuel Macron called interim Syrian leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa, the Syrian presidency said in a statement.
Macron raised the need to pursue the fight against terrorism, which he said is "for the benefit of the Syrian people as well as for the security of the French nation", Caliber.Az reports via French media.
He also called for the full integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces into Syria's transition process.
The two leaders also discussed the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, the Syrian president's office confirmed.
Al-Sharaa, who led anti-regime groups to remove the Assad regime, was declared president last week.
Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on December 8, 2024, ending the regime of the Baath Party, which had been in power since 1963.
