France to train Armenian special forces Defence minister's statement
French Defence Ministry Sebastian Lecornu has said France will send a military adviser to Armenia and will train Armenian special forces.
The minister listed those programmes and areas in which the parties have either already begun cooperation or intend to begin, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“In January 2023, France appointed a military attaché to the embassy of the republic in Armenia,” Lecornu wrote on his official X page.
He reported on the upcoming numerous working meetings and military visits. There was also talk about interaction with military educational institutions that train sergeants and officers.
Lecornu paid special attention to the training of special detachments of the Armenian Armed Forces, in particular, for conducting combat operations in high altitude conditions. Armenian snipers will also undergo retraining.
The French minister also announced the supply of three GM200 radars to Armenia and the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding future supplies of Mistral air defence systems. The French side also intends to conduct an audit of the ground-based air defence of Armenia’s Armed Forces.
