FSB says plot to kill senior Russian defence officer foiled in Crimea

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) says it has thwarted a plot to assassinate a senior officer of the Russian Ministry of Defence in Crimea. The officer’s identity has not been made public.
According to the FSB’s Public Relations Cente, a Ukrainian citizen was preparing to plant an explosive device under the officer’s personal vehicle. The suspect was killed during the attempt to place the bomb, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The FSB identified the organiser as Rustem Fakhriyev, described as a Ukrainian military intelligence officer born in 1984. In addition, a Crimean resident has been detained on suspicion of assisting Fakhriyev.
No further details were immediately released.
