EU Commission chief, Armenian PM discuss economic cooperation VIDEO
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss economic cooperation, trade diversification and European Union support for Armenia's economy.
Speaking alongside von der Leyen after the meeting, Pashinyan said the two had discussed Armenia's economic diversification efforts and the use of various EU support mechanisms, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
"I would like to express my gratitude for the European Union's budget support of €52 million, and I hope that the EU's assistance in diversifying trade and promoting exports will continue," he noted.
Pashinyan also thanked the European Commission for submitting to EU member states a proposal to introduce autonomous trade measures for Armenian goods.
"Once this decision enters fully into force, Armenia will become the first country in recent years that is neither an EU candidate nor has a free trade agreement with the European Union to benefit from this instrument," he added.
The Armenian prime minister expressed hope that, through close cooperation with EU partners and member states, the decision could be adopted as quickly as possible.
"We hope it can be approved in the shortest possible time, given that the harvest season in Armenia has already begun," the PM stressed.
