Georgia accuses 3 Serbian citizens of conducting training on organising riots

02 October 2023 16:59

The Georgian State Security Service has made a statement regarding the investigative actions against the "Canvas" organisation.

Serbian citizens Sinisa Sikvan, Jelena Stojsic and Slobodan Djinovic arrived in Georgia at the invitation of the East-West Management Institute of the USAID programme on September 25, 2023. These individuals are connected with the revolutionary events in Georgia in 2003, and in different years also had connections with similar processes in Serbia, Ukraine and other countries, Caliber.Az reports citing the Interpress News.

According to the State Security Service, they were actively teaching methods of creating protest drives and tactics for conducting violent actions. They represent the management link of the "Canvas" organisation, Sinisa Sikvan and Slobodan Djinovic are former members of the "Otpor" organisation, which was an analogue of the Georgian "Kmara" organisation in Serbia.

The declared reason for the arrival of the mentioned people in Georgia was to conduct training on "strategic non-violent fight" for groups working in the field of culture, but the investigative bodies revealed that this was not the only purpose of their arrival in Georgia.

In particular, the real purpose of the visit was to establish communication and conduct training with those young people and influential non-governmental organisations, which should become the core of destructive and illegal actions planned to be held in Georgia in October-December 2023.

The State Security Service announces that the conference held on September 26-29, funded by USAID, was organised by "Canvas-Georgia" and the East-West Management Institute.
