Kremlin: Russia not turning Eastward, but expanding global ties
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia is not shifting its foreign policy focus eastward, despite President Vladimir Putin’s recent visit to China.
Speaking to aif.ru, he stressed that Moscow is instead strengthening its partnerships with China, regional states, and countries of the Global South that are interested in cooperation with Russia,k Caliber.Az reports.
Peskov noted that it would be a mistake to describe Russia’s current policy as a “turn to the East,” explaining that the country has always been part of the East. He added that Moscow is building not only strategic but also privileged partnerships with Beijing and other states in Asia, as well as with nations across the Global South.
According to the Kremlin spokesperson, ongoing global transformation processes are encouraging many countries in the Global South to unite around the idea of reforming the international system.
He said these states reject the dominance of a single power in a unipolar world and oppose rules created by “unknown actors for their own benefit.” Instead, he underlined, they want international relations to be guided by the United Nations, its principles, and its Charter.
Peskov concluded that recent developments have further confirmed the intensification of these trends.
