Türkiye reaffirms readiness to lead diplomatic efforts for lasting peace in Ukraine
Türkiye has once again declared its readiness to assume a leading role in securing a lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine, Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz said, following his participation in the latest Coalition of the Willing summit.
In a statement posted on the Turkish social media platform NSocial, Yilmaz confirmed his virtual attendance at the fifth Leaders Summit of the Coalition of the Willing, a format he has now joined four times on behalf of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
“During the meeting, hosted in hybrid format by French President Emmanuel Macron, diplomatic efforts for achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine following the initiative taken by US President (Donald) Trump were discussed,” Yilmaz wrote.
The summit was held amid growing international momentum for negotiations aimed at halting the conflict, following last month’s high-profile Alaska Summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Talks are reportedly underway to organize a broader summit that would bring together Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Yilmaz emphasized Türkiye’s firm stance on the necessity of diplomacy and constructive dialogue:
“Türkiye reiterates once again that we are ready to take a leading role in every field to ensure lasting peace, and that diplomacy and dialogue between the parties must be prioritized. Until a just and lasting peace is established, we will continue to contribute to the diplomatic process with all our means,” he added.
Since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022, Türkiye has positioned itself as a rare intermediary with open lines to both Moscow and Kyiv. The country has consistently advocated for peaceful solutions to the conflict, rejecting unilateral escalation while maintaining balanced relations with both parties.
