Türkiye begins serial production of Altay main battle tank PHOTO / VIDEO
Serial production of Türkiye’s first indigenous main battle tank, the Altay, has officially begun at a new BMC factory in Ankara.
The project has been described as the fulfilment of a “100-year dream” for the country’s national defence industry, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
The tank, powered by the domestically developed BATU engine, has completed testing and is expected to enter service with the Turkish Armed Forces in the near future.
The facility, located within a specialised organised industrial zone for the aerospace and aviation sectors (HAB), incorporates locally produced industrial robots and advanced manufacturing technologies.
The factory will also produce next-generation Altug 8×8 armoured vehicles.
BMC chairman Fuat Tosyali stated that the plant is fully prepared for large-scale production, calling it a “pillar of the country’s land defence industry.” He added that the vehicles will be supplied not only to the Turkish military but also to allied nations.
The Altay tank is Türkiye’s first fully domestic main battle tank, combining modern armour, firepower, and high mobility.
The launch of its serial production marks a significant step towards strengthening the country’s defence independence.
