Georgia detains 16 more in aftermath of presidential palace attempt
On October 17, 2025, Georgian Interior Ministry officials announced the detention of 16 additional individuals in connection with the attempted storming of the presidential palace in Tbilisi on October 4, bringing the total number of arrests to 62.
As reported by Caliber.Az citing Georgian media, Interior Minister Gela Geladze provided the update during a briefing.
“In connection with the mentioned criminal case, today we have detained 16 more people. Within the framework of the ongoing investigation, we have now detained 62 individuals in total, and criminal proceedings have been initiated against two persons currently abroad,” Geladze said.
The events of October 4 occurred during municipal election voting, when protesters attempted to forcibly enter the residence of the President of Georgia, initiating what they called the “transfer of power to the people.”
