Georgia prepares for possible use of nuclear weapons in the region
The Georgian government is taking measures to prepare for the possible use of nuclear weapons in the region, Grigol Liluashvili, the head of the Georgian State Security Service said.
He noted the threat of the use of nuclear weapons in the wider region and told MPs that a "smart" and "pragmatic" policy was key against the danger, Caliber.Az reports citing Agenda.ge.
"The existing challenges do not exclude the use of nuclear weapons. I do not mean our country, I mean the surrounding region. We must be smart, and conduct a moderate, pragmatic policy, both inside and outside the country," the official said.
He told MPs a "special action plan" had been created under the leadership of the Government and with the participation of related agencies to provide the latter with guidelines for cases of nuclear danger.
Liluashvili also said the Ministry of Health had plans on how to provide treatment through an emergency aid scheme and distribute support in such scenarios.
