Turkish FM to meet German counterpart for high-level talks
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will hold talks with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul.
Wadephul is scheduled to visit Türkiye on Friday, October 17, Anadolu Agency reports, citing sources in the Turkish diplomatic service.
During the discussions, Fidan is expected to emphasise the importance of maintaining high-level consultation and dialogue mechanisms between Türkiye and Germany, while expressing satisfaction with the development of bilateral economic and trade relations.
The Turkish minister will likely note that the upcoming Türkiye–Germany Joint Committee on Economy and Trade (ETOK/JETCO) meeting and the Energy and Mining Forum will boost economic and trade ties, confirming Türkiye’s strategic commitment to expanding its energy partnership with Germany.
The agenda will also cover Türkiye–EU relations. Fidan is set to share assessments on EU-related matters and highlight Ankara’s emphasis on coordinating security strategies in Europe under NATO.
The minister is also expected to address bilateral cooperation in the defence industry and potential collaboration within the EU Security Action Plan (SAFE) framework.
He will outline Türkiye’s position on regional and global challenges, including issues in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Syria. Previously, reports indicated that Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet deliveries to Türkiye would be among the topics discussed.
After Wadephul’s visit this week, current Chancellor Friedrich Merz is also expected to visit Türkiye in the near future for talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to Anadolu Agency.
