Tourists in Russia's Sochi sheltered in basements amid overnight drone and missile attack VIDEO
During the night of October 17, the Russian resort city of Sochi came under attack from drones and missiles, prompting authorities to evacuate tourists in local hotels to basements and underground shelters.
According to RBC-Ukraine, which cited Russian Telegram channels, the first reports of a potential drone strike appeared shortly after midnight.
At 02:15 a.m., Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin posted a message with instructions on how residents should act in case of an attack.
Around the same time, videos began circulating on local social media channels showing air raid sirens sounding across the city. Telegram channels reported that air defence systems had been activated, with witnesses hearing at least three explosions over the Adler district.
By early morning, at 04:55 a.m., Mayor Proshunin confirmed that Sochi’s air defence forces were actively repelling a missile attack.
Meanwhile, the Telegram channel ASTRA reported that hotel guests in Sochi were escorted to basements and underground parking areas as a precautionary measure during the strikes.
