Georgia restricts export, re-export of cars to Russia, Belarus
Georgia has said it had banned the re-export of cars imported from the United States to Russia and Belarus since August 1.
According to the Georgian Revenue Service, from September 26, the re-export of cars imported from the European Union to Russia and Belarus will be prohibited, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Georgian media.
Under the sanctions package approved on June 23, cars with an engine capacity of more than 1,900 cubic centimetres (1.9 litres) and all-electric and hybrid cars are banned from entering Russia.
Restrictions on the export and re-export of cars also apply to Belarus.
Cars were Georgia's third largest export in trade with the Russian Federation. For six months of 2023, cars worth $53 million were sold through Georgia to Russia. Export for the year increased by 274 per cent. The average cost of a car delivered to Russia was $14,000.
Azerbaijan purchased 14,206 cars for $226 million over the same period.
