Erdoğan says Türkiye, US preparing high-level talks to shape bilateral ties
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that Türkiye and the United States are continuing preparations for a high-level meeting that will influence the trajectory of relations between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters aboard his flight from Italy, Erdoğan confirmed that relevant ministries on both sides are working on the groundwork for a potential face-to-face meeting with US President Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
“We will meet Mr Trump in person at the earliest opportunity. Our phone conversation was sincere, productive, and friendly,” Erdoğan said.
He described Turkish-American ties as "deep-rooted" and said there are “many topics to discuss and many steps to take” in the period ahead. The timing of the meeting, he added, is being considered within the framework of ongoing ministerial coordination.
The Turkish president expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations under a renewed dialogue with Trump.
“We believe we can bring a very different momentum to our bilateral ties with my friend Trump in the new period. We also support his vision for peace, particularly regarding Russia and Ukraine,” Erdoğan said.
He also welcomed what he described as Trump’s sensitivity to Türkiye’s concerns and noted that both leaders see eye to eye on the situation in Syria.
“Even where we differ, we continue to seek reasonable common ground. We are two leaders who believe we can overcome what some circles see as risks—through dialogue and diplomacy.”
