Türkiye to launch diplomatic offensive against PKK/YPG amid US withdrawal from Syria VIDEO
Türkiye is preparing to initiate a robust diplomatic campaign this summer aimed at countering the presence of the PKK/YPG terrorist organization in northern Syria, as the United States begins withdrawing military forces from key positions in the region, including the strategic Koniko oil field.
The Turkish government is intensifying both bilateral and multilateral consultations to shape the evolving geopolitical landscape in eastern Syria, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Ankara's primary objective is to ensure that its national security concerns are fully reflected in any new US policy toward Syria following the American military drawdown.
In recent weeks, high-level Turkish and American defence officials convened in Ankara to deepen cooperation in the defence and defence industry sectors. The dialogue also focused on pressing regional and global security challenges, with both sides seeking to advance mutual understanding amid shifting ground realities in Syria.
Security sources highlight that although the US previously announced its intention to withdraw troops from Syria, implementation has been delayed or inconsistent. Turkish officials are now closely monitoring the latest movements to assess how the drawdown will be carried out and what ramifications it may have for security and stability in the region.
Ankara believes that regional actors—namely Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon—should assume greater responsibility in managing security challenges in Syria, particularly with regard to controlling ISIL-affiliated camps and detention facilities. The Turkish government is working to enhance its regional strategy through multilateral cooperation frameworks.
In this context, Türkiye has spearheaded the establishment of a 5+5 cooperative platform that includes Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon, aimed at combating the lingering threat posed by ISIL. The initiative is expected to serve as a mechanism for intelligence sharing, security coordination, and joint diplomatic engagement, further reinforcing Türkiye’s leadership in regional counterterrorism efforts.
