Georgia's president chooses Azerbaijan for his first official foreign visit, envoy says
President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili has chosen Azerbaijan for his first official foreign visit, underscoring the strategic partnership and close ties between the two neighboring countries.
Speaking to journalists, Georgia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze, highlighted the significance of this visit, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s first foreign visit begins with Azerbaijan. As you know, Azerbaijan and Georgia are strategic partners and friendly countries. It is very important that the first visit is to Azerbaijan,” he stated.
According to Pataradze, President Kavelashvili is scheduled to hold high-level talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The agenda also includes bilateral meetings with Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister and other senior officials to discuss a broad range of cooperation issues.
Key topics of discussion will include regional security and joint economic initiatives. Pataradze emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration in the fields of renewable energy and major infrastructure projects.
He said economic projects currently underway between the two countries, particularly renewable energy and a number of mega projects, will also be discussed.
