Georgia seeks “genuine” strategic partnership with US
Georgia has called for a “real” strategic partnership with the United States, moving beyond what it describes as a largely symbolic relationship.
Speaking to local media, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said the country aims to elevate ties with Washington to a new level, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
“We want to begin a strategic partnership with the US from a new height. Not the kind of partnership that has existed more on paper than in reality, but a genuine strategic partnership that Georgians know and have repeatedly demonstrated to the American people,” he said.
Papuashvili added that contacts with the new US administration are ongoing and that Washington recognises Georgia’s national interests.
However, he noted that the pace of bilateral relations has so far fallen short of expectations.
