Georgian parliament beefs up security measures
Entrance of visitors to the Parliament of Georgia is restricted from February 5 to 8 in connection with the discussion of the issue of confidence in the new Cabinet of Ministers and the President's speech in the coming week, the Georgian legislature said in a statement.
The restriction will not affect media representatives, Caliber.Az reports citing Georgian media.
Prime Ministerial candidate Irakli Kobakhidze will present the program of his government to the MPs next week. The issue of a vote of confidence in the candidate for Prime Minister of Georgia will be submitted to the plenary session on February 8.
According to the press service, a "yellow" security level will be in effect at the Palace of Parliament on February 5-8 following the order of the Speaker of the Parliament dated September 4, 2023 "On Approval of Security Rules at the Palace of the Parliament of Georgia".
"On February 5-8 this year the Parliament of Georgia is scheduled to discuss the issue of confidence in the Government of Georgia in committees, factions and at the plenary session of the Parliament of Georgia, and on February 6 the Parliament of Georgia will hear the annual report of the President of Georgia ... Entrance to the Palace of Parliament will be restricted to visitors. The restriction does not apply to media representatives," the statement reads.
The purpose of these measures is to ensure a safe and working environment in Parliament.
Kobakhidze’s candidacy for the post of Prime Minister of Georgia was presented to parliament on February 2, along with the government’s new program “For the construction of a European state.”
