Georgian parliament to launch procedure to override veto on foreign agent law
The Georgian parliament will launch a procedure on May 27 to override President Salome Zourabichvili’s veto on the foreign agent law.
In particular, a meeting of the Parliamentary Legal Issues Committee is scheduled for May 27 at 09:00 (GMT+4), Caliber.Az reports citing the message posted on the website of the Georgian parliament.
The first issue that the committee will have to discuss is the president's veto on the foreign agent law.
If the committee approves overriding the veto, the issue will be brought to the plenary meeting on May 28.
Despite the protests in Georgia, the parliament approved the draft law "On Transparency of External Influence," also known as the "law on foreign agents," on May 14. This decision prompted discussions within the EU about cancelling visa-free regime with Georgia as a retaliatory measure. Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili vetoed the law on May 18.
