Georgian premier apologises for President Zourabichvili's words about Chinese leader
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili summoned the Chinese Ambassador to Tbilisi, Zhou Qian, to apologise for Georgian leader Salome Zourabichvili’s words that Chinese President Xi Jinping could be convicted of “genocide of the Uyghurs.”
Garibashvili called this statement “categorically unacceptable” and “causing indignation,” as well as “contradicting the attitude of the Georgian government and its people towards China,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media,
The head of the Georgian Cabinet noted that this is not the first time Zourabichvili “violates the constitution and harms the state interests of the country with some of his activities.” He also expressed hope that the statements of the Georgian President will not harm the developing relations between Tbilisi and Beijing.
Zourabichvili made a corresponding statement during a visit to France that was not coordinated with the Georgian government.
