Georgian president on faster and reliable way integrating into EU, NATO

05 May 2022 20:44

"What we really need is a faster and more reliable way to integrate into the EU and NATO. This is where we see our maximum security," Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said in an interview with Deutsche Welle, Georgia Online reports.

According to her, the country's security cannot be a war.

"War cannot be our ultimate security, because we will never be able to win the war with Russia," said Salome Zurabishvili.

Zurabishvili also noted Georgia's application for EU membership and stated that this is a path that has already become a reality.

"This is a path that has already become a reality. One of the ways to show support to these countries against aggression and threats is to get closer to them, which we see now," Salome Zurabishvili said.

Salome Zurabishvili considers the excellent attitude expressed by Germany in terms of supporting European countries.

"I think the current changes are encouraging. I'm more interested in current support than analyzing the past. I think it's wonderful to see how Germany expresses its vision of both Europe and Ukraine, which is directly supported by Germany. This gives some hope," Zurabishvili said.

Answering the question: "Would it have been possible to avoid the development of events if European countries had reacted faster," Zurabishvili said that she did not want to place responsibility on either side.

According to her, European countries could do more, but only Russia is responsible for what is happening.
