German boxing organisations demand sanctions against Armenia

Germany's Heydar Aliyev World Boxing Committee and the Diaspora Boxing League have strongly condemned the burning of the Azerbaijani flag at the opening ceremony of the European Championships in Yerevan.

This unacceptable fact was assessed in a statement addressed to international organizations on behalf of the Committee and the League as "another act, which is the embodiment of Armenia's entrenched hatred towards Azerbaijan on ethnic grounds, just one day after the torture of an Azerbaijani soldier, Caliber.Az reports, quoting State Committee for Work with the Diaspora.

The inappropriate treatment towards the Azerbaijani flag at a prestigious competition where the Armenian Prime Minister was present, an atmosphere of hostility that made it impossible for Azerbaijani athletes to participate in the competition from a safety viewpoint.

Azerbaijani compatriots called on the European Weightlifting Federation to impose sanctions against Armenia, on the relevant structures to make a legal assessment of the two cases of violence, and on the international sports, community to raise its voice in protest and strongly condemn these actions, which are a gross violation of accepted rules of hosting sports competitions.
