Germany to deploy Patriot missile defence systems in Poland
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has confirmed that Germany has proposed to temporarily redeploy its Patriot missile defence system in Poland starting early next year.
"We will thereby protect the logistics hub in Poland, which is central to the supply of equipment to Ukraine," Pistorius stated, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"We will thereby guarantee the supply of vehicles, weapons, and ammunition to Ukraine," he added.
According to the German Defence Ministry, the Patriot systems can be stationed in Poland for up to six months.
Earlier reports indicated that the deployment would take place near the city of Rzeszów in southeastern Poland. German military experts are expected to assess the site conditions in the coming days, with the deployment set to begin in January 2025. Rzeszów is home to an airport that plays a crucial logistical role in transporting military supplies to Ukraine.
From January to November 2023, Germany already stationed three missile defence systems in Poland, near the border with Ukraine, with approximately 320 Bundeswehr troops overseeing their operation.
