Gulf states threaten Iraq with diplomatic recall over militant attacks
Gulf states are considering strict measures against Iraq, including the recall of their diplomats, if attacks by armed groups operating on Iraqi territory continue.
Qatar and Saudi Arabia are actively engaged in talks with Baghdad in an effort to prevent Iraq from being drawn into a broader regional conflict, Al-Akhbar reports.
“Recalling ambassadors is being used as a pressure tool to force the Iraqi government to control armed formations,” the source said.
The newspaper noted that Arab capitals are insisting on Iraq’s neutrality and oppose the use of its territory for attacks against neighboring states.
In addition, diplomatic circles in Gulf Arab countries are reportedly considering economic sanctions, including the suspension of investment projects that are critical to Iraq’s economic development.
