Haas team principal: Azerbaijan Grand Prix has its own history, atmosphere

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix has its own history and unique atmosphere, Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu said ahead of this weekend’s Formula 1 race in Baku.

“We are heading to the Baku City Circuit (BCC) for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. This race has its own history and atmosphere. It is a weekend that everyone looks forward to,” Komatsu said, according to local media.

He also highlighted the challenges posed by the Baku street circuit, which combines long, flat stretches with narrow sections running through the Old City.

“This presents our engineers with difficult challenges when it comes to setting up the car correctly,” he said.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place from September 24 to 26. It will be the 15th round of the Formula 1 season and marks a decade since F1 first raced in Azerbaijan in 2016.

The 51-lap race will be held on the 6.003-kilometre Baku City Circuit, which combines long, high-speed straights with tight sections through the historic Icheri Sheher old town. The circuit's lap record is 1:43.009, set by Charles Leclerc in 2019.
