Harris campaign shifts focus to digital ads with $370-million budget

18 August 2024 13:53

On August 17, US Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign revealed plans to allocate $370 million for advertising, starting after Labor Day and continuing through the November election.

This includes $200 million earmarked for digital ads, which the campaign claims is the largest digital ad commitment in US political history, and reflects a strategy to engage voters through their phones and other digital devices, Caliber.Az reports, citing American media.

In contrast, only $170 million is set aside for television ads as traditional TV viewership continues to decline.

“This is a modern campaign for 2024, and we’re moving beyond the old approach where 80 percent of the budget is spent on television,” said Quentin Fulks, Harris’s principal deputy campaign manager.

While the campaign did not disclose specific spending amounts for each state, it stated that its television ad expenditures would be double what President Biden’s 2020 campaign spent in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, four times the amount in Georgia, and six times what was spent in Nevada, the least populous battleground state.
