Hungarian PM furious at Zelenskyy over drone allegation “Stop harassing us!”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has lashed out at Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling on him to stop persecuting Budapest following the latter's claims about alleged Hungarian drones spying on the country.
Orbán made his position clear in a statement posted on his official X account on September 27, Caliber.Az reports.
“Hungary is a member of NATO and the EU. Ukraine would have collapsed long ago without the support of these two organisations. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with all due respect, stop harassing us!” his post reads.
This furious reaction came in response to President Zelenskyy's remarks made the previous day, claiming that Hungary had violated Ukrainian airspace by sending reconnaissance drones into the country "which are likely Hungarian". The Ukrainian leader asserted that his country's preliminary assessments suggested that this was done in order to spy on the industrial potential of Ukraine's border areas.
The Hungarian prime minister was not the only one in Budapest to react appalled to such a claim. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó accused Zelenskyy of having "gone crazy with anti-Hungarian sentiment."
