ICRC representatives visit Armenian separatists in Azerbaijan
Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross have met with former “leaders” of the Armenian separatist regime detained by Azerbaijani authorities in Karabakh.
Individual meetings were conducted with them, and arrangements were made for them to communicate with their families, Caliber.Az reports citing the ICRC’s office in Azerbaijan.
“By its mandate, the ICRC evaluates the treatment of detainees and the conditions of their detention during such visits. The ICRC also facilitates the restoration or maintenance of contact with their families. In accordance with ICRC procedures, observations and recommendations regarding visits are communicated and discussed solely with the detaining authority,” the statement reads.
Azerbaijani law enforcement officials have arrested and transported to Baku former leaders of the Armenian separatists in Karabakh.
This includes former “presidents” Arkady Gukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Araik Harutyunyan, as well as the former “foreign minister” David Babayan, “parliament speaker” David Ishkhanyan, and generals Leva Mnatsakanyan and David Manukyan, along with the former “state minister” Ruben Vardanyan.
