ICRC reps visit former "leaders" of Karabakh junta detained by Azerbaijan
The representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have visited Armenian detainees in Azerbaijan in August.
The information about them was provided by the Azerbaijani side. The visits included one-on-one meetings with the detainees and arrangements were made for them to communicate with their families, Caliber.Az reports citing the ICRC’s office in Azerbaijan.
In line with its mandate, the ICRC assesses the conditions of detention and treatment during such visits and facilitates the renewal or maintenance of detainees' contact with their families.
Observations and recommendations from these visits are shared and discussed solely with the detaining party.
Azerbaijani law enforcement officials have detained and transported to Baku former "leaders" of the Armenian separatists in Karabakh, including former "presidents" Arkady Gukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Araik Harutyunyan, former "Foreign Minister" David Babayan, "Parliament Speaker" David Ishkhanyan, and Generals Leva Mnatsakanyan, David Manukyan, and former "State Minister" Ruben Vardanyan.
