III CIS Games: 37 Azerbaijani athletes to compete in boxing
At the III CIS Games, being held in Azerbaijan for the first time, the country’s boxing team will feature 37 athletes at a tournament set to begin on September 29 at the Yevlakh Olympic Sports Complex and conclude on October 5.
The men’s team is led by head coach Vagif Kazimov, supported by specialists Aghasi Mammadov and Teymur Mammadov. The squad includes representatives from all weight categories, ranging from 46 kg to +80 kg. Among them are Gardash Rahimov, Ali Rushanov, Ali Aliyev, Hasan Sakhratli, Aykhan Hasanov, and others, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The women’s team, coached by Ilkin Aghaev with trainer Elnur Piriyev, will also participate. The squad consists of 11 athletes, including Aysel Farajova, Aylin Nazarova, Gulyar Huseynova, Amina Taghi, Sima Ismayilova, and Sama Abbasova.
A total of 161 boxers from eight countries—Azerbaijan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan—will compete in the Games. The women’s finals are scheduled for October 4, while the men’s finals will take place on October 5.
The matches will be officiated by 20 judges: 15 from Azerbaijan and one each from Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Emil Gurbanalyiev has been appointed tournament supervisor, and Anar Babanli will serve as chief referee.
