III CIS Games: Azerbaijani athletes win multiple medals in Greco-Roman wrestling
Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers delivered solid performances at the III Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Games, securing a series of medals across various weight categories as the tournament nears its conclusion at the Ganja Olympic Sports Complex.
In the 71 kg final, Islam Sultanov secured a commanding 3:0 win over Belarusian opponent Zakhar Terashkov, earning a gold medal for Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.
Earlier in the tournament, Ali Nazarov showcased his prowess in the 60 kg category, defeating Russia’s Ivan Kozlov with a close 2:1 scoreline in the final to clinch another gold for the host nation.
Elshad Abbasov also reached the top of the podium, taking gold in the 51 kg weight class. Meanwhile, Yusif Mirzoev added to Azerbaijan’s medal tally with a silver in the 48 kg division, and wrestlers Hikmet Hagverdiyev (55 kg) and Nihat Tagiyev (65 kg) each earned bronze medals.
The III CIS Games will officially conclude on October 8.
