India explores LPG purchases from Azerbaijan — The Hindu
India is considering purchasing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Azerbaijan, said T.V. Pandiyan, head of LPG business at the state-owned refiner Bharat Petroleum told The Hindu on the sidelines of the India Energy Week in Goa.
According to Pandiyan, the state-owned Indian refinery is negotiating with Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) for the supplies.
At the same time, Bharat Petroleum aims to diversify its supply sources and is exploring the LPG purchase from the U.S. at more competitive prices, for which a tendering process has been announced.
He stated that the tender for the US is based on their spot purchasing practice.
Azerbaijan has long been an important supplier of crude oil to India, which is part of New Delhi’s strategy to diversify its energy sources.
At India Energy Week 2025, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India’s ONGC and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL). This agreement aims to enhance cooperation in crude oil and LNG supply, petroleum product trading, and technical collaboration, particularly around the ACG field and the BTC pipeline.
