International Basketball Federation bans Russia, Belarus to participate in world championships
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has decided to remove Russian and Belarusian national teams and clubs from competitions scheduled for the coming months.
According to the decision, the men's teams of both countries will not play in the remaining qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup, Interfax reports referring to the FIBA press service.
The results of matches previously held with these teams are cancelled. Moreover, the Russian team has been excluded from the list of participants in the 2022 Women's World Cup.
The Russian and Belarussian athletes will not be allowed to participate in some other international tournaments, including 2022 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup.
It is also prohibited to hold any competitions under the FIBA auspices in Russia and Belarus.
