Iran, Afghanistan coordinate security efforts along common border
On January 27, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Afghanistan's acting Defence Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid held talks to coordinate efforts aimed at maintaining stability along their shared border and combating terrorism.
During the meeting, Araqchi underscored the interconnected nature of the security challenges faced by both nations, emphasizing the need for closer cooperation between their respective authorities to ensure border security, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
He highlighted key concerns such as drug trafficking, terrorism, and unauthorized border crossings, stressing that addressing these issues requires robust coordination and collaboration between the two countries.
Mujahid, for his part, expressed Afghanistan’s appreciation for Iran’s ongoing support, particularly its warm hospitality towards millions of Afghan refugees over the past 46 years. He described the relationship between the two nations as both cordial and valuable, reinforcing the importance of maintaining strong ties.
The Taliban official also emphasized Afghanistan’s commitment to addressing security threats, particularly terrorism, and called for enhanced information exchange and coordination with Iran to tackle these urgent challenges.
