Iran asserts right to respond to Israeli threats, rejects accusations at UN

In a recent development at the United Nations Security Council, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Saeed Iravani, delivered a staunch rebuttal to accusations levied against Iran by the Israeli regime.

In a letter addressed to President of the Security Council, Yamazaki Kazuyuki, and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iravani categorically dismissed the allegations as baseless fabrications aimed at diverting attention from the atrocities committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, Caliber.Az reports via Mehr News.

Iravani's letter, dated March 7, directly addressed the claims made by the Israeli Foreign Minister, which he described as laden with lies and misinformation. He highlighted that the accusations were intended to obscure Israel's ongoing aggression in the Gaza Strip and its breaches of international law, including UNSC Resolutions 1559 and 1701, as well as efforts to legitimize its actions by wrongly implicating Iran.

"This letter represents yet another cynical attempt by the Israeli regime to deflect the attention of the international community from the ongoing egregious atrocities and acts of genocide committed by this apartheid regime against the Palestinian people," wrote Iravani.

While emphasizing Iran's commitment to regional stability and its opposition to any military adventurism by Israel, Iravani stressed Iran's inherent right to defend itself against any threats or attacks originating from the Israeli regime. He underscored that Iran would take all necessary measures in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter to safeguard its national security and interests.

"Iran reserves its legitimate and inherent right, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, to take all necessary measures to respond to any threat or attack originating from the Israeli regime against its national security and interest and its people," Iravani stated.

Furthermore, the envoy reiterated Iran's support for the rights of Syria and Lebanon to defend themselves against any aggression from Israel, affirming their inherent rights under international law.

"Iran also reaffirms the inherent right of the Syrian Arab Republic and Lebanon under international law to take all necessary measures in response to any threat or attacks and acts of aggression by the Israeli regime against its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity," he added.

In conclusion, Iravani requested the circulation of his letter as an official document of the Security Council, signalling Iran's commitment to transparent dialogue within the international community.
