Iran emphasises urgent need for peace deal between Azerbaijan, Armenia
Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated the critical importance of advancing peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Speaking during his weekly press briefing on July 28 underscored the necessity of promptly concluding a formal peace agreement to stabilise the region, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
Baghaei cautioned that any delay in progressing the peace process risks exacerbating regional tensions.
He urged both parties to engage constructively and with full commitment to achieving a sustainable and mutually acceptable resolution.
On July 10, 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a significant bilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi, marking their first direct talks without international mediators.
The discussions, which lasted over five hours, began with both leaders accompanied by their delegations and later transitioned to a one-on-one dialogue.
The talks focused on key issues such as border delimitation, the development of the Zangazur Corridor, and the finalisation of a peace agreement.
Both sides agreed to continue negotiations through various working groups and at higher levels, emphasising the importance of bilateral dialogue in addressing these matters.
While no breakthroughs were achieved, the meeting was described as constructive, with Armenia's Foreign Ministry labelling it as "successful" and a potential foundation for further peace efforts.
The UAE's role in facilitating this direct engagement underscores its growing influence in regional diplomacy.
