Iran’s president urges Israel to cease hostilities Amid rising tensions

11 October 2024 18:40

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on Israel to immediately halt its military actions in the Middle East, condemning the country's operations as violations of international agreements.

Pezeshkian expressed grave concern over the impact of Israeli actions on innocent civilians, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

"Stop killing innocent people, stop bombing residential houses of those who already have nothing. Israel has violated every possible international agreement, emboldened by the support of the US and the European Union," the Iranian president stated.

As tensions escalate in the region, Russia has also expressed its discontent with Israel's military actions. The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning Israel's shelling of facilities belonging to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Moscow demanded an immediate cessation of such hostile actions, emphasizing the need for respect towards UN peacekeepers fulfilling their mandate.

The ministry stated, "Moscow is outraged by the actions of the Israeli military. We urge Israel to refrain from hostilities against UNIFIL personnel and extend our support to the wounded, wishing them a speedy recovery."

Both Iran and Russia's statements highlight the growing international concern regarding the ongoing conflict in the region and the need for urgent dialogue to prevent further escalation.

Lebanon's Foreign Ministry has urged the UN Security Council and the countries involved in the UN Interim Force in Lebanon mission to investigate an Israeli Armed Forces strike on peacekeepers at the Ras al-Naqoura promontory in southern Lebanon.

The ministry called for the international community to take immediate action, saying, “We call on the Security Council and the participating nations to initiate and facilitate an investigation into this incident.”

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry strongly condemned Israel's actions and expressed its expectation for a robust response from the international community.
