Iran's spiritual leader voices support for Hezbollah after Nasrallah's death
Iran's spiritual leader, Ali Khamenei, declared that all resistance forces in the Middle East stand firmly behind the Hezbollah movement following reports of the death of its general secretary, Hassan Nasrallah.
“The entire resistance front in the region is on Hezbollah's side, supporting it,” Khamenei stated, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He emphasized that the fate of the region “will be determined by the resistance front, particularly Hezbollah.”
The Israeli army (IDF) previously reported that Nasrallah was killed in a strike on Beirut, which also resulted in the deaths of Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah's southern front, and several other commanders. This attack took place on September 27, 2024.
In his remarks, Khamenei urged “all Muslims to support the people of Lebanon and Hezbollah” using all available means to help confront Israel. He asserted that Lebanon would take decisive steps to ensure that Israel regrets its actions in the Middle East.
The conflict in the Middle East escalated in October 2023 when thousands of rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel, prompting the Israeli Defence Forces to initiate Operation Iron Swords. By September 2024, the conflict intensified further, with Israeli airstrikes targeting settlements in southern and eastern Lebanon. The IDF announced a pre-emptive offensive operation against Hezbollah military facilities, leading to large-scale strikes that delivered “serious blows” to the movement. The Israeli General Staff has indicated preparations for a ground operation in southern Lebanon, stating that Hezbollah would be held accountable for its actions against Israel.
Following the announcement of Nasrallah's death, the Iranian supreme leader was moved to a location with enhanced security measures. Reports indicate that Iran is actively in contact with Hezbollah to discuss the strategic path forward in the wake of Nasrallah's assassination.
