Georgia cracks down on immigration violations, international fugitives
Georgian authorities have intensified efforts to combat illegal immigration and uphold international law enforcement cooperation.
As part of a nationwide operation, the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained 21 foreign nationals who were residing in Georgia without legal grounds. The detainees, who include citizens of India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, and Egypt, were found to have overstayed the legal time limits set by Georgian law, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
The individuals were apprehended for violating immigration regulations and are now subject to administrative procedures in line with Georgian legislation.
In a related development, a citizen of Uzbekistan wanted under an Interpol red notice was detained in the coastal city of Batumi. The suspect is accused in Uzbekistan of commercial fraud and robbery. Authorities have confirmed that extradition procedures are underway, and the individual will be returned to Uzbekistan to face charges.
