Georgian FM: Tbilisi, Washington developing new relations framework
Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili has stated that Tbilisi and Washington are working on a renewed agenda for bilateral relations based on mutual respect and consideration of both countries’ interests.
During a visit to the United States, she said the two sides have recently taken important steps to advance cooperation and strengthen dialogue, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
According to her, Georgia is working with the United States on what the content of renewed Georgian-American relations should be and how these ties should be developed.
“We hope that in the near future we will have an opportunity to discuss specific areas of cooperation in greater detail,” Botchorishvili added.
She further noted that recent reciprocal visits were aimed at promoting dialogue between the two countries.
The event was attended by US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, who said that President Donald Trump’s administration is interested in reviewing relations with several countries and sees opportunities to strengthen cooperation with Georgia.
“The strong signals we have heard give us hope for the further development of relations between Georgia and the United States and for new opportunities to bring bilateral ties to the level both countries deserve,” the minister stressed.
Botchorishvili emphasised that Georgia has always supported comprehensive cooperation with the United States based on mutual respect and taking into account the national interests of both countries.
