Over 90 Global Sumud flotilla activists arrive in Türkiye after Israeli detention
More than 90 activists of the Global Sumud flotilla from 21 countries, previously detained in Israel, were transported to Türkiye on October 10 from Jordan via a Turkish Airlines special flight.
It was confirmed at Istanbul’s international airport that 18 of the arrivals are Turkish citizens, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
A Turkish Foreign Ministry official, Öncü Keçeli, had earlier stated that 94 people were expected to be brought to Istanbul.
Previously, Türkiye evacuated around 120 of its citizens detained by Israel for participating in the flotilla mission, along with representatives from other countries.
The Global Sumud Flotilla is a coalition of activists from multiple countries aiming to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
On October 1, 2025, Israeli naval forces intercepted the flotilla in international waters and detained participants.
The detainees were held for attempting to breach Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza, which Israel enforces, citing security concerns.
