Magnitude 5.8 earthquake strikes off Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula
A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, with tremors felt across several parts of the region, according to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The quake was recorded at a depth of 53.4 kilometers and occurred approximately 90 kilometers southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative center of the Kamchatka Territory, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Residents in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and the nearby town of Yelizovo reported feeling the earthquake, which reached an intensity of up to 4 on the local scale, though no significant damage or injuries have been reported.
Authorities confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued following the seismic event.
Kamchatka lies in a seismically active zone along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes are relatively common. Local emergency services continue to monitor the situation.
