Energy infrastructure in Kyiv and across Ukraine severely damaged by Russian attack
Ukraine’s energy infrastructure sustained serious damage during the night of October 10.
Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko reported on the development on X, calling it “one of the largest concentrated strikes against energy facilities”, as per Caliber.Az.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as a “cynical and calculated” operation, carried out using over 450 drones and more than three dozen missiles, targeting facilities essential for the normal functioning of Ukrainian cities.
According to Zelenskyy, more than 20 people across the country were injured, all receiving necessary medical assistance. Tragically, a child was killed in Zaporizhzhia as a result of the strikes. The President extended his condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
The strikes caused widespread de-energisation across multiple regions, including Kyiv, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Odessa, and Dnipropetrovsk. Restoration efforts are underway in Zaporizhzhya, Kirovograd, and Kherson regions, with electricity and water supply being gradually reinstated in Kyiv.
Zelenskyy emphasised that all essential services and rescue teams are actively working on the ground to address the aftermath of the attacks.
The President noted that Russia is deliberately targeting Ukraine’s civil and energy infrastructure ahead of the heating season. He called on international partners to take decisive action by enhancing deliveries of air defence systems and implementing additional sanctions against Russia.
