Israel's Rafael develops laser-based active protection system for infantry units
The Israeli Defence Ministry will soon sign a contract with RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. for the supply of mobile active protection systems for infantry units.
The system developed by Rafael is designed to intercept anti-tank missiles, drones, and loitering munitions targeting infantry units, similar to the "Trophy" active protection system which is used for tanks, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
As opposed to "Trophy" which launches its own charge to intercept a missile, the infantry system is based on laser technology.
"Rafael has developed methods to bypass atmospheric interference and concentrate the laser beam’s energy to target and destroy an object the size of a coin by combining multiple beams into a single, focused beam just before hitting the target," the ministry said.
Founded in 1948, RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. designs, produces, and supports combat-tested technologies, products, and integrated systems for air, land, naval, space, and digital domains. Drawing on its technological innovation, operational expertise, and deep insight into emerging combat needs, RAFAEL delivers cutting-edge defense solutions that enhance operational effectiveness and save lives. The company’s strategy focuses on building strategic global partnerships and localizing operations to maintain customer sovereignty.
