The relationship between Israel and Hezbollah is one of intense hostility, marked by periodic armed conflicts, ongoing tension. Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group and political party based in Lebanon, was founded in the early 1980s with the support of Iran in response to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982. The group's primary goals included resisting Israeli occupation and establishing an Islamic state in Lebanon. From its inception, Hezbollah focused on opposing Israel's presence in Lebanon, particularly in the southern region.
