Kazakhstan café explosion kills two, injures 11
At least two people have died, and 11 others have been injured after a gas cylinder exploded at a café in central Kazakhstan, officials say.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the blast occurred at a café on the Moyynty railway station in the Shetsky district of the Karaganda region, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
The explosion triggered a major fire that quickly spread throughout the building.
Fire crews arriving at the scene found the café fully engulfed in flames, with what authorities described as intense open burning. The scale of the fire significantly hampered efforts to bring it under control. Part of the roof later collapsed over an area of about 200 square metres.
The injured were taken to the nearest district hospital for treatment.
Emergency services said the fire was completely extinguished by 02:00 local time on December 13, after burning an area of roughly 300 square metres.
Preliminary findings suggest the explosion was caused by violations of gas safety regulations, including the improper use of domestic gas cylinders.
Rescue teams are continuing to inspect the damaged structure and are taking measures to prevent any renewed outbreaks of fire.
