Kazakhstan committed to boosting its partnership with EU President Tokayev tells European Council chief
Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with European Council President António Costa around issues in the economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
The discussions that took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the US, also saw Tokayev emphasising Kazakhstan’s firm commitment to further strengthening its partnership with the EU, both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the C5+ dialogue, Caliber.Az reports via a Kazakh news portal.
“The discussion highlighted the high momentum in the development of political dialogue, which contributes to the promotion of trade, economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and the European Union,” the press release stated.
The leaders also exchanged views on current international and regional issues.
Following the meeting, both sides agreed to continue contacts to expand mutually beneficial interregional cooperation.
The High-Level Week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly is taking place in New York from September 22 to 30, 2025, bringing together heads of state, government leaders, and foreign ministers from around the world. Marking the 80th anniversary of the UN, this session is being held under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.”
In addition to issues on sustainable development, climate action, global health, gender equality, and the protection of minorities, High-Level Week also serves as a major diplomatic platform for bilateral and multilateral meetings on the sidelines of official events. Leaders use the occasion to advance their national interests, discuss regional issues, and strengthen international partnerships.
These gatherings provide an opportunity for states to assess progress on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, renew commitments to multilateral cooperation, and address pressing global challenges from conflict to climate change.
