Kennedy Jr. may assume key role in Trump’s health initiatives if elected
If Donald Trump wins the upcoming U.S. presidential election, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could potentially be appointed to a significant role focused on children's health care.
Kennedy Jr. might lead initiatives within the Trump administration aimed at combating childhood chronic diseases, Caliber.Az reports via US media.
Both Trump and Kennedy Jr. share similar views on preventing health issues such as obesity and diabetes among children, although no final decisions regarding appointments have been made, according to sources.
However, it appears unlikely that Kennedy Jr. would gain a prominent position in Trump's administration, as Republican senators may oppose his nomination. According to another US media outlet, Kennedy Jr. has a “limited chance” of receiving the necessary Senate support for key roles, including the head of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or the Food and Drug Administration, even if Republicans hold a majority in the Senate.
Sources explained that any appointment Kennedy Jr. seeks regarding healthcare issues would require confirmation through the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, where influential positions are held by moderate Republicans who may resist Trump's nominee. One source from Semafor commented, “The future president is treated with some deference, but I don't think Kennedy Jr. is the clear favourite.”
Under a Trump administration, Kennedy Jr. might only anticipate serving as an advisor, a possibility that Trump has not dismissed. According to Semafor, Trump's associates indicated that the likelihood of Kennedy Jr.'s confirmation would remain uncertain until after the election, suggesting that Trump would need to actively advocate for his appointment.
Earlier, Kennedy criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, calling her the least effective Democratic candidate in the presidential elections.
In an interview with the Italian newspaper, Kennedy remarked, “Harris is probably the worst presidential candidate in our history.” He suggested that Americans are seeking change from President Biden and that Harris has failed to convince anyone of her ability to deliver it.
“She lacks the leadership to challenge the military and intelligence agencies, struggles to speak without a prepared script, and has shown she cannot handle immigration or control inflation,” Kennedy Jr. added.
He anticipates a victory for Republican nominee Donald Trump, asserting, “The Democratic Party has become the political arm of the elites, while the Republican Party genuinely represents the people.” In August, Kennedy announced he was suspending his independent presidential campaign to support Trump, citing shared positions on critical issues, including the need to end the conflict in Ukraine.
