Kremlin confirms Putin-Trump meeting to take place “When the time comes”
A face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump will "certainly take place" at the appropriate time, but preparations are still required, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
Responding to questions from VGTRK host Pavel Zarubin, Peskov emphasized that both leaders have expressed their political will to hold such a meeting — including through public statements — but noted that "the meeting will take place at the right time and must be properly prepared," Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Peskov made the remarks in reference to Putin’s recent conversation with Stephen Witkoff, the special envoy of the American leader.
When asked whether this dialogue could be seen as a step toward a future summit between Putin and Trump, Peskov affirmed, "In one way or another, it will undoubtedly be an additional step in the direction of that meeting."
On April 11, 2025, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with President Putin in Saint Petersburg. This meeting aimed to advance stalled peace talks, with Witkoff emphasizing the urgency of achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine. President Trump expressed frustration over the lack of progress, labeling the war as "senseless" and urging Russia to expedite negotiations.
