Lithuania plans to invest €100 million in strengthening its border with Russia
Lithuania’s strengthening of border security with Russia’s Kaliningrad region, which also serves as the EU’s external border, requires defence investments amounting to €100 million, said the Baltic republic’s Interior Minister, Vladislav Kondratovič.
“Based on the calculations, we need around €100 million for measures to reinforce the border with Russia,” he said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The minister outlined the key areas where funding should be directed.
“We need effective equipment to counter unmanned aerial vehicles, we need to upgrade video surveillance systems, and acquire ships,” he noted.
Lithuania borders Russia only through the Kaliningrad region. The Lithuanian-Russian border is 294.4 km long, of which 253.7 km runs across land and inland waters, 18.5 km along the Curonian Lagoon, and 22.2 km across the Baltic Sea.
